Compositing
Various
These are a few breakdowns of the scenes I’ve created in some of my gaming videos. These projects range from 2016-present, all done in Adobe After Effects.
This was from When Fortnite Meets Game of Thrones
I wanted to create an ominous intro by using the in-game Castle and transform it into Winterfell. I added Jon’s sword and the Stark banners at the entrance and it was looking pretty sweet. I wanted to add some depth so I got a clean plate of the other side of the ice and blurred it with an added ice texture to make it feel less flat. All this was tied together with a depth matte so I could pull focus from the ice block to the entrance and added my final grade.
This was from When Fortnite Meets Stranger Things
I wanted to re-create the ending scene from Season 2 where the camera goes underground and reveals the upside down. I knew the first thing I wanted to do was replace the sky as it didn’t look evil enough. I used some images of clouds and some lightning effects to create the desired look and placed it in my scene. I noticed it wasn’t really affecting the rest of the scene so I added some ambient lighting when lightning struck and added some reflections to the water. After finishing off with some dust particles and a grade I was happy with the result.
This was from The Multi-Cod Trickshot 2
After creating the first installment of this video, I knew for the second one I really wanted to go all out with compositing. In the first one I combined the weapons and characters from Black Ops 2 and the map from Modern Warfare 2 together. In this, I did the opposite. The main struggle was matching the timing and perspective of the two shots together. It ended up just being a whole lot of trial and error but I’m happy with how it turned out!
This was from Introducing SoaR Fameful
An intro for a SoaR highlight video I did, I knew I wanted to do a really cool night sky scene that backed up to show the title text and knew that the game didn’t have the look I was going for, so I decided to make one. I added in a custom sky, moon, and clouds but felt it just looked like it was a scene that was clearly turned from day to night. I added a light to the side of the building and it gave the scene a nice contrast to complement the custom elements I threw in.
